Buntu sets out its first steps on packaging and shipment consolidation

An update on how the company is working to reduce packaging and make its inbound shipments more efficient.

Buntu today outlined the first measures it is taking to reduce packaging waste and improve the efficiency of its shipments. The company is at an early stage in this work, and it intends to report progress as measurable results become available.

Inbound packaging

A significant share of the packaging Buntu handles arrives with products from suppliers, often in greater quantities than are needed to protect the goods. Where suppliers are able to offer lighter packaging, Buntu now requests it as part of its purchasing terms. Excess outer packaging is removed before orders are prepared for customers wherever this can be done without affecting product protection.

Shipment consolidation

The most significant change to date has been the consolidation of inbound shipments. By combining orders into fewer, fuller shipments, Buntu reduces the number of individual consignments it receives, which lowers both transport costs and the volume of packaging associated with each delivery.

"Consolidation was the first lever available to us, and it has already made a meaningful difference to how goods arrive," says a Buntu spokesperson. "The next step is to measure our packaging use properly, so that we can set targets based on real figures."

Right-sized packaging for customers

For customer orders, Buntu is standardising on packaging sizes that more closely match the products being shipped, reducing empty space and the use of filler materials while maintaining protection in transit.

Buntu does not yet publish a sustainability report. The company will share packaging and shipment data once it has established a reliable baseline.
